The killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, by an ICE agent in Minneapolis has ignited widespread outrage across the United States.
Good was fatally shot at close range. Following the incident, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, stated that Good had “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to run over law enforcement officers, labeling the situation “an act of domestic terrorism.”
However, video footage from the scene appears to contradict that account. Viewers who have seen the recording say it shows Renee attempting to flee rather than deliberately attack officers. The video captures an officer trying to enter her vehicle, after which she reverses, turns her wheels to the right, and attempts to drive away.

At that moment, another officer stands in front of the SUV, though the vehicle’s tires are visibly angled away from him. As the car moves forward, it makes light contact with the officer—insufficient to knock him down. The officer then fires a shot through the windshield, followed by two additional shots through the side window as Good continues to drive away.
Her SUV traveled approximately 100 feet before crashing into a parked white vehicle.
Public reaction has remained intense in the days following the shooting. Many have taken to social media to express anger and grief.
“Murder. Plain and simple. There are times we can no longer stay silent. This is the time. This is murder,” one person wrote.
Another added, “That wasn’t self-defense. That was retaliation and anger because she was getting away. They should all be prosecuted.”
One Reddit user highlighted what they described as a critical detail: “THE WHEELS ARE FULLY TURNED AWAY FROM THE OFFICER. Watch in slow motion. No intention, in my opinion, to hit anyone. The sole intention based on the steering was to leave the scene, not pose a threat.”

Several officials and lawmakers also criticized ICE and challenged the explanation given for the shooting. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to the incident as “a public murder,” stating, “What we saw was a woman shot in the head while trying to escape and flee for her life.” She described the killing as “the manifestation of every American’s worst nightmare.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a former civil rights attorney, strongly rejected former President Trump’s claims that Good was a “professional agitator” who intentionally and violently ran over an ICE officer. According to The Hill, Frey said, “Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly—that is bullsh*t.
“This was an agent recklessly using power, and it resulted in someone being killed.”
During a press conference shortly after Good’s death, Frey demanded that ICE “get the f**k out of Minneapolis,” adding, “They are not here to keep this city safe. What they are doing is creating chaos and distrust.”
Renee Nicole Good, whose life ended in a tragic and senseless act, was remembered by those who knew her as a kind and compassionate person deeply devoted to her children. She was also described as a creative spirit—a poet and writer with a passion for self-expression.
