Brad Pitt Sues Angelina Jolie for $35 Million Over French Winery Dispute

Brad Pitt has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, reigniting their long-running legal battle that began after their high-profile split.

Once Hollywood’s most celebrated couple, Pitt and Jolie separated in 2016 after two years of marriage and nearly a decade together. Though their divorce was finalized years ago, one major dispute has continued to draw them back into court — their shared ownership of Château Miraval, a luxury winery in southern France.

The Château Miraval Controversy

The legal feud centers on Jolie’s decision to sell her share of the winery to a third party. Pitt claims that the sale violated an agreement that neither of them would sell their stake without the other’s consent. Jolie, however, denies any such arrangement existed.

Now, according to newly revealed court documents, Pitt is suing for $35 million in damages related to the ongoing business conflict. The lawsuit reportedly stems from emails exchanged between the former spouses’ legal teams in late 2023.

What the Court Documents Reveal

Jolie’s attorneys have argued that Pitt’s lawsuit has created the very burdens he’s now facing. “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation — he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” one filing stated. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”

In another email from October 2023, Jolie’s team accused Pitt of seeking “ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s operations” and refusing to disclose records tied to “the reasons why he needed his four-year NDA covering his personal misconduct.” Her lawyers insisted those documents “go to the heart of our case and must be produced.”

Jolie’s Response

Pitt’s attorneys have countered that less than six months after Jolie sold her stake, her legal team suggested adding a mutual non-disparagement clause as part of their divorce proceedings. Pitt maintains that both parties had agreed not to sell without mutual approval — a claim Jolie denies.

The next public hearing in the case is scheduled for December 17, 2025.

Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying:

“Mr. Pitt’s reply brief does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation — all for the purpose of invading her privileged communications with her lawyers.”

He added:

“This once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina. We look forward to the upcoming hearing.”

The legal saga between the former couple shows no signs of slowing down — and the world continues to watch as their battle over Château Miraval unfolds.
