Eric Trump Reveals Melania’s Sharp Rebuke to Donald in New Memoir “Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation”
The question of who truly holds the power in Donald and Melania Trump’s marriage has been debated for years. According to Eric Trump, one particular incident left little doubt — it’s Melania who calls the shots.
In his newly released memoir, Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation, Eric recalls a memorable moment when the former First Lady publicly scolded her husband following a family photo op, proving that even one of the most powerful men in the world isn’t immune to his wife’s authority.

Eric’s memoir, promoted as an “unfiltered look at the highs and lows of life in the Trump world,” dives deep into the family’s time in the White House and their private moments behind closed doors. Among the anecdotes is a detailed recollection of his children’s baptism, which took place in the East Room of the presidential residence.
The event, Eric writes, was deeply personal. “For Lara and me, having Luke and Carolina baptized there just seemed natural,” he shares. “My father could step away from a meeting with a foreign delegation, and my children could feel the history and beauty of the building—a connection now part of their DNA.”

Following the ceremony, Donald Trump lifted his grandson for a photo beneath the portrait of Abraham Lincoln. But as soon as the picture was being taken, baby Luke began to cry.
What happened next, according to Eric, perfectly captured the family dynamic. After an awkward pause, Melania swiftly intervened. “Donald, you run the country,” she reportedly said before taking the tearful child into her arms.
It wasn’t the first time Melania demonstrated her commanding presence. Over the years, the former model has often been described as the one person capable of keeping Donald Trump in check — something she herself has playfully acknowledged.
Their relationship began in 1998 during New York Fashion Week, where Donald, already a well-known businessman, approached Melania and asked for her phone number. However, she wasn’t immediately impressed.

“He was with a date, so of course I didn’t give it to him,” Melania told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016. Instead, she challenged him: “I’m not giving you my number; you give me yours, and I’ll call you.”
Melania explained that she wanted to see what kind of number he would offer — whether it would be his business line or something more personal. Eager to win her over, Donald handed her every possible number: his office, his Mar-a-Lago residence, and his home in New York.
From that moment on, Melania Trump made it clear she would do things her own way — and as Eric Trump’s memoir suggests, not much has changed since.
