Former President Barack Obama has broken his silence in response to Donald Trump’s recent accusations, dismissing the former president’s claims that the Obama administration tried to rig the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Calling Trump’s statements “a weak attempt at distraction,” Obama’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, issued a rare public statement.
“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not typically respond to the steady stream of misinformation coming from this White House,” Rodenbush said. “But these accusations are outrageous enough to warrant a response.”
The statement also directly refuted an 11-page report released by former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. In it, Gabbard accused officials from the Obama era of participating in a “treasonous conspiracy” and called for their prosecution. Rodenbush reaffirmed that no credible evidence supports such claims.

“Nothing in that document undermines the widely accepted conclusion that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election—but did not succeed in altering any actual votes,” he stated. “This conclusion was reaffirmed by a 2020 bipartisan report from the Senate Intelligence Committee, then chaired by Senator Marco Rubio.”
Trump made the accusations during a July 22 meeting at the White House with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., where he was also questioned about disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide while in federal custody.

In response, Trump shifted the focus to Obama.
“You should be talking about the real witch hunt—they caught President Obama absolutely cold,” he told reporters. “It’s time to go after people. Obama’s been caught. This was treason.”
“They tried to steal the election, obscure the results, and manipulate the process in ways no one ever imagined,” Trump continued.

Critics—including some within the pro-Trump movement—believe these remarks are a diversion from growing controversy surrounding Epstein-related documents. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently blocked the release of additional files and denied the existence of an Epstein client list, sparking outrage among Trump supporters. The issue was a major talking point at the recent Turning Point USA Student Action Summit.
