René was the only man I ever kissed—the only man I ever truly loved. Our story began when I was just 12 years old, and he was 38. Despite the 26-year age difference, something unspoken, something powerful, connected us from the very beginning.
It was 1981 when René first heard one of my demo recordings. I was a young girl with dreams of becoming a singer, and he was an experienced music manager. So moved by what he heard, René made a bold and selfless choice: he mortgaged his home to fund my first album. Neither of us could have imagined that this leap of faith would become the cornerstone of my entire career—long before the success, the stages, and the fortune.
What followed was a love story that spanned more than two decades. For 21 incredible years, René was not only my husband but also my manager, mentor, and partner in every sense. Together, we raised three children, and I shared with him a romantic and intimate bond that I’ve never known with anyone else.
René passed away in January 2016, after a brave battle with cancer. Since then, I have never looked for another love. I still love him, deeply and truly. I feel his presence in my daily life—in our children, in my fans, and in the unwavering support of those around me. But when it comes to romantic love, he was and will always be the one.
Every night, when I close my eyes, I imagine him beside me. And on stage, I still feel him there—his spirit, his strength, his love guiding me through every note.
In many ways, I still feel married to him. The bond we shared transcends time and even death. It is a love that shaped me, carried me, and continues to live in my heart forever.
