It's not too common, but now and then, you hear about people choosing to undergo plastic surgery. Some might want to adjust their nose, enhance their lips, or add a bit of extra glow to their face.
Jessica Alves, formerly known as Rodrigo Alves, went far beyond this, undergoing around 70 procedures to transform herself into a living Barbie doll.
It’s normal to feel uncertain about parts of your appearance. Still, remember that beauty and potential exist in everyone, no matter what others might say.

While some seek cosmetic changes to alter their look, Jessica Alves took this to an extreme, reconstructing her appearance entirely.
Jessica Alves – Transition
Jessica’s story began in early 2020, when she revealed to The Mirror that she identified as transgender.
“I’m known as Ken, but inside, I’ve always felt like Barbie,” the then-36-year-old shared. “For the first time, I feel like the real me: glamorous, beautiful, and feminine.”
Since then, she has gone by the name Jessica and uses "she" and "her" pronouns.
Coming Out as Transgender
Jessica began hormone therapy, developing feminine curves. She also added blonde hair extensions, false lashes, and now wears a D-cup bra. By July, she announced that she would officially go by the name Jessica.
“For years, I tried living as a man. I had fake muscles implanted and even a fake six-pack, but I was lying to myself,” she said. “I’m a woman, with a feminine mind. Now my body reflects who I truly am.”
Jessica appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018, and in recent years, she even released a song called Plastic World with Italian surgeon Giacomo Urtis. She also has over a million followers on Instagram and formerly worked as a flight attendant.

Jessica Alves – Childhood
Jessica Alves, born Rodrigo Alves, was born on July 30, 1983, in São Paulo, Brazil. Her father was British, her mother Brazilian, and her grandfather gifted her dolls from a young age, supporting her choice to express herself as she liked.
Allowing children to follow their natural inclinations rather than societal norms is something many value.
Jessica’s fascination with dolls became a defining part of her early years, eventually shaping the image she wanted to present to the world.
“Growing up, I was very feminine, played with dolls, and wore my mom’s dresses and heels,” she explained, adding that as a teenager, she disliked her appearance.
“I loved to laugh, but it would widen my nose—a feature my family openly criticized. That insecurity led to my first cosmetic procedure.”
Moving to London and Surgery Journey
Jessica moved to London to study at the London School of Economics, and in 2004, she had her first plastic surgery. This marked the start of an ongoing transformation she found hard to stop.
“I was never fully satisfied after a procedure, and I still feel the same way,” Jessica admitted.
Jessica Alves – Surgeries
Nearly 20 years later, Jessica has undergone over 100 surgeries.
These include nose jobs, Botox, fillers, pec implants, jaw and leg liposuction, hair transplants, calf shaping, a fake six-pack, arm fillers, four rib removals, and a "cat-eye" lift.
Jessica has spent more than half a million dollars on these procedures. Over time, her appearance became unrecognizable to her classmates. She was reportedly suffering from morphodysphoria, a condition where a person has a distorted view of their body.
Initially, Jessica aimed to embody the male Ken doll. Today, she’s striving to become a human Barbie.

This journey hasn’t been without risk. In April 2016, Jessica was hospitalized with necrosis, a condition where skin tissue dies.
A hole began forming in her nose as her septum detached. She struggled to breathe and was admitted to a hospital in Málaga, Spain.
She received antibiotics through an IV drip every eight hours, The Daily Mail reported.
Dangerous Infection
Doctors warned that if left untreated, the infection could severely damage her face, possibly leading to gangrene.
“I can’t breathe through my nose and feel terrible. My nose has collapsed. I have a consultation in London in six weeks, and I hope surgery can be done as soon as possible,” she shared.

In Spain, two years ago, Jessica had a chemical peel—a process where an acid lotion is applied to remove old skin. She described it as painful and said her face appeared red and burned.
“I can’t go outside for days without high SPF because the sun here in Marbella is so intense,” she added.
After facing two serious health scares, Jessica had her eleventh rhinoplasty in 2019, but her nose began collapsing. The procedure had intended to correct previous issues from Botox.
Transformation to Jessica Alves
“The results were initially good, but now my nose is sinking again, and I’m genuinely scared,” Jessica admitted to The Daily Mail.
“Each surgery becomes riskier, and I worry that doctors won’t be able to permanently fix my nose.”
Jessica has gained recognition worldwide for her distinct look, which has prompted diverse reactions.
While opinions vary, Jessica’s comfort and happiness with herself remain what matters most.
Jessica shared that she had always felt feminine. But only last year, during a photo shoot, did she decide to officially transition.
“Within a month, I was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and offered the chance to start the right treatment,” she told the NY Post. “People used to stare at me because I looked unusual as a man. Now, I hope they’re looking because they see a beautiful woman.”
Final Steps in Transition
Jessica was determined. She had her Adam’s apple removed, six-pack muscles re-sculpted, breast augmentation, and fillers in her knees, hips, and feet, costing around $35,000.
She’s also had facial feminization surgery and hormone therapy.
In July, she told This Morning that she still had a few surgeries left.
“I just need two or three more surgeries to finish my transition. After that, I swear I’m done with plastic surgery,” she said. “Surgery is daunting, but I need it to become who I am.”

Jessica, now 41, has just a few remaining surgeries, including a penile inversion and testicle removal, to complete her transition.
“I love everything about my new life—getting my hair and nails done, wearing high heels and lingerie,” said Jessica, who now resides in London.
New Nose Surgery
Jessica’s nose surgeries have taken her to Brazil, Colombia, Iran, America, and Istanbul. Recently, she had yet another operation to fix breathing issues.
After several doctors declined due to complications, she found a surgeon in Istanbul who used cartilage from her ear. She can now finally breathe normally.
Through her Instagram, Jessica shares images from her transition journey and daily life.
After all she’s endured, she appears truly happy, and in the end, that’s what counts.
Covered in Bandages After Fifth Facelift
Fast-forward to 2024, Jessica Alves, now a TV personality, is still pursuing ways to enhance her appearance.
In October, the 41-year-old emerged from a Turkish hospital after her fifth facelift, covered in bandages. Dissolving her former fillers had left her with nearly four inches of loose skin. To resolve this, she underwent a “ponytail facelift,” a procedure involving staples along her hairline to lift and tighten her skin.
She was photographed in a wheelchair with a headscarf, being helped into a car, with images quickly spreading online due to the dramatic scene.
“If I pinched my skin, I could pull off three or four inches. It was like rubber, so the doctor removed five inches,” she said.
