Prince Harry Reportedly Gives William One Condition Before He Will Agree to Return as Working Royal

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, reportedly has no plans to return to royal duties unless his brother, Prince William, formally apologizes. While Harry stands firm in his decision to step back from royal responsibilities, he has hinted at the possibility of taking on a temporary role if King Charles III were to request it.

Despite this potential openness, Harry and William have not communicated in months. At their uncle, Lord Fellowes’ recent funeral, the brothers were both in attendance but did not speak, highlighting the ongoing distance between them.

Tensions have intensified since the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, which William allegedly sees as a major obstacle to reconciliation. Harry appears to be moving on, reconnecting with former advisors and friends in an effort to reestablish himself within British social circles. However, these actions seem more calculated than reflective of any genuine desire to fully reintegrate into royal life.

While Harry isn't actively seeking a return to royal duties, he remains open to supporting the family in times of need, especially in light of recent health concerns for King Charles and Prince William. However, he insists that an apology from William—particularly for the toll his memoir has taken on their relationship—remains a key condition for any potential future involvement.

In various interviews, Harry has mentioned that he deliberately left out certain details from his book to avoid further inflaming family tensions, though he acknowledges that what he did include might still be difficult for his family to accept.

Despite their ongoing rift, Harry attended the funeral of his late mother’s brother-in-law in August 2024, where he and William maintained their distance. Public reactions were mixed, with some hopeful for a reconciliation and others skeptical of Harry’s intentions.

The brothers' fallout, which began in 2016 and worsened after the release of Spare, has been exacerbated by wider issues within the royal family. Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down from royal duties, as well as concerns over their security, has further strained relations. Although the situation remains tense, recent events suggest that reconciliation, while difficult, is not entirely out of reach.
