Two months have passed since the public last saw Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. The Palace has faced criticism for keeping her medical details private.
Following her "scheduled" abdominal surgery, it was disclosed that her condition was noncancerous. She has cleared her calendar and won't resume her royal duties until Easter.
Online speculation has intensified due to a series of royal health concerns, including King Charles' cancer diagnosis. In response, a Palace spokesperson reassured well-wishers, stating, "Kensington Palace outlined the princess's recovery timeline in January. We will only provide significant updates. This guidance remains," and confirming the Princess's continued good health.
Despite this, royal experts caution the royal family to be more transparent with the public. They question why Prince William was absent from the memorial of his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, citing an unspecified "personal reason."
Prince William withdrew from the significant event less than an hour before its commencement, despite it taking place in his own vicinity and his scheduled participation in a reading before numerous European royals.
Royal biographer Phil Dampier noted, "The royals have a right to privacy, but these are not ordinary times," as reported by MailOnline. "I fear that without a reason given for Prince William's last-minute withdrawal, there will inevitably be speculation, some of which may be unfounded and sensational, but such is the nature of today's social media," he commented. "Recent reports in a Greek publication about Kate's health, which lacks evidence, have quickly spread globally."
He continued, "The Palace has clarified that Kate is recovering well, and we've seen the King return to London, possibly for treatment. However, we still don’t know the pressing personal reason that led William to cancel. I believe greater openness from the palace could mitigate speculation."
Is the Palace's reassurance sufficient to placate public concerns about Kate’s actual health condition? Many argue it's insufficient, but until officials divulge more information, we must trust that the Princess is indeed on the mend.
