I found something strange in the yard – white, round balls: I was horrified when I realized what it was

Spending time in my garden has always been one of my favorite ways to unwind. Over the years, I’ve encountered all kinds of insects and tiny creatures—most of them fascinating in their own way. But nothing compares to what I discovered one afternoon while pulling weeds.

As I worked, a small patch of soil dotted with tiny white spheres caught my attention. At first, I assumed they were bits of plastic or debris blown in by the wind. But when I leaned closer, something felt off. The little balls were too uniform, too smooth—almost unsettlingly alive.

To be cautious, I slipped on my gloves and gently loosened the soil around them. The spheres were soft and slightly squishy, with a texture like jelly. A sudden realization sent a chill through me: these might be eggs. But eggs from what? A bird? An insect? Or something far less welcome?

Unable to resist my curiosity, I collected a few and brought them inside. Under the bright kitchen light, faint dark spots were visible inside their translucent shells. I grabbed my phone and searched online—and immediately wished I hadn’t. They were snail eggs. Gardeners warned that a single snail can lay dozens at once, and in damp conditions, they can hatch within weeks. What looks harmless at first can quickly turn into a serious infestation.

Even worse, I learned that in some regions—especially those with tropical species—snail eggs can carry parasites that are harmful to humans. That thought alone made my skin crawl.

I returned to the garden right away, gathered the remaining eggs, and poured boiling water over them, a method many gardeners recommend to prevent hatching. Afterward, I turned over the soil and carefully checked beneath pots and leaves for any other hidden clusters.

Now, whenever I spot something shiny in the dirt, I pause and look twice. Nature has a remarkable way of surprising us—sometimes when we least expect it.
