Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the man hailed as a hero for disarming one of the shooters during the Bondi Beach attack, has been photographed recovering in hospital and says he would not hesitate to act the same way again if faced with a similar situation.
However, his former migration lawyer, Sam Issa, has revealed that the injuries Al-Ahmed suffered are far more severe than initially reported. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Issa said Al-Ahmed is undergoing multiple surgeries after being struck by five bullets.
“These are serious injuries — much more serious than what’s been reported,” Issa said. “At this stage, he has no feeling in his arm. I’m not a medical professional, but he believes one of the bullets may have damaged a nerve.”

Despite the pain and long recovery ahead, Issa said Al-Ahmed has no regrets about his actions.
“He doesn’t regret what he did. He said he would do it again,” Issa explained. “But the pain is beginning to take a toll. He’s not well at all. He’s riddled with bullets, and our hero is struggling right now.”
As of Monday, more than $1.2 million had been raised through crowdfunding to support Al-Ahmed’s recovery. The fundraiser was launched at the initiative of US billionaire Bill Ackman, who reportedly donated $99,000 himself.

Footage of the 43-year-old father of two bravely grabbing gunman Sajid Akram from behind and wrestling the firearm from him has gone viral. People around the world have praised Al-Ahmed’s quick thinking and extraordinary courage, with many believing his actions prevented an even greater loss of life.
Video shows the attacker falling backward as Al-Ahmed seized the rifle. Al-Ahmed then raised the weapon, keeping the barrel pointed away without firing, as the disarmed gunman fled the scene. Al-Ahmed placed the rifle against a nearby tree just as another bystander charged toward the shooter and threw an object at him.

The confrontation unfolded in full view of a second alleged gunman — Akram’s 24-year-old son, Naveed — who was waiting on a nearby footbridge while armed. Naveed was later taken to hospital in critical condition under police guard, while his father was shot dead by police at the scene.
After the initial confrontation, Al-Ahmed was shot twice in the shoulder and arm while taking cover behind a tree. He remains hospitalized at St George Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
