The White House has issued an official statement after confirming that President Donald Trump was taken to the hospital on Friday morning, October 10, prompting renewed questions about his health.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reported that the 79-year-old President was brought to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. According to the administration, the visit included a scheduled meeting with U.S. troops and what they characterized as a “routine yearly checkup.”
The timing has raised eyebrows, as President Trump is believed to have completed his annual physical only six months prior.
Concerns surrounding the President’s health increased in July, after photos circulated online showing discoloration on his hands and swelling near his ankles.
In the official statement, Leavitt said:
“On Friday morning, President Trump will visit Walter Reed Medical Center for a planned meeting and remarks with the troops. While there, he will stop by for his routine yearly checkup. He will then return to the White House. President Trump is considering traveling to the Middle East shortly thereafter.”
According to the BBC, Trump was diagnosed earlier this summer with chronic venous insufficiency — a circulatory condition that affects blood flow in the leg veins. Doctors describe the condition as benign and common in individuals over the age of 70. It occurs when veins struggle to move blood back to the heart efficiently, often causing swelling in the lower legs.
The President previously faced unfounded online rumors about his death after he spent several days out of the public eye. When asked about the speculation, he brushed it off, saying, “I didn’t hear that one. That’s pretty serious stuff.”
At the time, he also reassured the public on social media, declaring, “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE,” and later told reporters aboard Air Force One, “Good heart. A good soul. Very good soul. I wanted to be a little different than Biden. I took a cognitive test — I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right.”
