Kate Middleton issues rare statement following cancer treatment: It’s ‘really, really difficult’

Since publicly sharing her cancer diagnosis nearly two years ago, Kate Middleton has largely stepped back from the public eye. The time away, however, seems to have offered her space to rest, recover, and reflect.

Now, the Princess of Wales is slowly returning to royal duties — and with a renewed perspective on life. Recently, she appeared alongside Prince William and their three children at the Trooping the Colour ceremony, marking one of her first major public outings since treatment.

Royal correspondent Rebecca English reports that the experience has deeply affected both Kate and William, shifting their priorities and outlook.

“Cancer changes your perspective,” a source told English. “What we’ve seen over the past year is that family and their children remain at the heart of everything they do. Both Their Royal Highnesses remain committed to duty, service, and using their platform for good — but they’re also finding ways to balance those roles with being parents.”

Another source added, “Everyone is adjusting the dial.”

On June 2, Kate visited Colchester Hospital in Essex, where she met with cancer patients and spent time in an outdoor recovery space designed to support healing during treatment. During the visit, she candidly opened up about her own journey and the challenges that come after treatment ends.

“You put on a brave face during treatment,” she said. “When it’s over, you think, ‘I can get back to normal.’ But actually, the phase afterwards is really difficult. You’re no longer under the clinical team, yet you can’t quite function at home as you once did. Having someone to guide you through that transition is so important.”

She added thoughtfully, “You have to find your new normal — and that takes time. It’s a rollercoaster; it’s not as smooth as you expect. The reality is, you go through hard times.”

Kate’s honesty and strength continue to inspire many, offering a reminder that recovery is not just physical, but deeply emotional as well.
