A group of quick-thinking children—now fondly called the Tremendous Twelve—became overnight heroes after helping police track down two fleeing burglary suspects.
While hunting for Easter eggs near Capel, Surrey, the youngsters, aged between six and twelve, noticed a police helicopter circling overhead. Spotting a man running across the nearby field, they realized something serious was happening.
“It was really noisy, and we could see the word police written underneath,” recalled a nine-year-old girl from the group. “Then we saw a man take off his jumper and wrap it around his head. We tried shouting to the helicopter, but it couldn’t hear us.”
That’s when inspiration struck. “Two of my friends said, ‘Let’s make an arrow!’” she continued. “So, we all lay down on the ground to point the way.
Forming a perfect human arrow, the children directed the pilot toward the suspects. Within moments, the helicopter changed course—and police officers on the ground moved in.
The suspects, aged 27 and 28, were quickly arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a nearby farm.
“At first, they thought we were just playing around,” one of the kids said proudly. “But when they followed our arrow, they found the men. We’re really proud—it was awesome!”
Accompanied by their loyal Yorkshire terrier, Molly, the children’s teamwork and bravery soon captured hearts online after Surrey Police released video footage of the moment.

Ben Brearley, one of the parents, said, “The kids were amazing. People keep saying it’s like something straight out of Scooby-Doo or an Enid Blyton story—and the children love that comparison.”
Sergeant Paul Sochon from Surrey Police praised the group’s quick thinking: “Their initiative made a real difference.”
The Tremendous Twelve’s clever teamwork not only helped catch criminals but also proved that heroism comes in all sizes—and sometimes, it looks like a group of kids lying in a field with their dog, pointing the way to justice.
