Donald Trump Cuts Speech Short Amid Medical Emergency

Former President Donald Trump was compelled to end a White House press conference early following an unexpected medical emergency during the event.

The incident occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of television personality and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, who was appointed as the new administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

According to the Irish Star, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt abruptly ended the briefing and instructed reporters to leave the room after a young girl collapsed during the proceedings.

"Press out," Leavitt was heard saying, as the situation unfolded.

Noticing the commotion, President Trump paused his remarks and stepped away from the podium, expressing concern: “I hope she’s OK.” Dr. Oz quickly moved off camera to assist as well.

Video footage showed the girl being swiftly escorted out of the room. Later, the White House confirmed that the individual was a “minor family member” who had fainted, adding that she had recovered. In an official statement, the White House said, “A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing-in ceremony in the Oval Office. We are happy to say she is OK.”

During the event, President Trump praised Dr. Oz, describing him as “one of the nation’s most talented and beloved medical professionals.”

He highlighted Dr. Oz’s academic credentials, noting his graduation from Harvard University, followed by earning both a Doctor of Medicine and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine and Wharton School, respectively.

Dr. Oz went on to serve as a heart surgeon and professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University. He also directed the Cardiovascular Institute and the integrative medicine program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

In 2009, he launched The Dr. Oz Show, a health and wellness program that ran until 2022. While popular, the show often faced criticism for promoting controversial health claims. One such claim—describing green coffee extract as a "magic weight loss cure"—was publicly condemned by the Federal Trade Commission.

Dr. Oz’s appointment to lead CMS was confirmed by the Senate earlier this month with a 53-45 vote.
