Dogs are often called man’s best friend, but few tales capture the depth of that bond quite like the story of Officer Cory Masterson and his K9 partner, Reno.
While chasing suspects through a dense forest, Officer Masterson was ambushed. A blow to the head knocked him unconscious, leaving him vulnerable and alone on the forest floor.

Sensing the danger, Reno raced through the trees and came upon a harrowing scene: one of the assailants stood over Cory, knife in hand. Reno barked frantically and clawed at the nurse’s door until she rushed in. Paramedics were called, and CPR began. But after a while, the responders stopped. Cory showed no signs of life.
They declared him gone.

Doctors were stunned. He had experienced the rare “Lazarus phenomenon,” where a person’s heart restarts spontaneously after CPR has ended. The police department later released a statement commending Reno’s heroic instincts.
In the end, it wasn’t just loyalty that saved Cory—it was love. Reno sensed life where others saw none. He never gave up, even when everyone else did.
