It’s 2025, and sadly, cases of animal cruelty still remind us that not everyone treats pets as the cherished companions they are. While many of us see dogs as loyal, loving members of the family, others continue to see them as disposable.
One such heartbreaking case was that of a young pit bull named Taho — a puppy who miraculously survived a horrifying act of cruelty, only for his story to end in the most tragic way.
Thrown from a Moving Vehicle
On the night of February 1, 2023, deputies from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing suspects in a stolen truck along Interstate 694 in Arden Hills, Minnesota. The suspects — connected to carjackings and gun-related crimes — were driving the wrong way down the highway at 60 mph.

During the high-speed chase, deputies witnessed something white being thrown from the moving vehicle, slamming hard onto the pavement. At first, it wasn’t clear what it was.
But later, dashcam footage revealed the horrifying truth: the suspects had thrown a puppy out of the truck.
That puppy was Taho.
Against All Odds, He Survived
After the suspects were apprehended, deputies returned to the area, but the dog was nowhere to be found. With frigid overnight temperatures and the violence of the impact, they feared the worst.
Yet, against all odds, Taho was found the next morning — curled up on a snowbank, shivering and injured but still wagging his tail.
“He was happy-go-lucky,” Sgt. Dan Young told WCCO. “We even got him up in the van and he was licking us.” The officers gave him a piece of pizza, and in that moment, he was just a puppy grateful for kindness.
Taho was rushed to a veterinarian, where he was treated for a broken femur and multiple cuts. Despite his injuries, his spirit remained strong. Pet Haven, an animal rescue organization, took him in, and a fundraiser helped cover his medical bills as he began the long journey of healing.

A Glimmer of Hope
As Taho recovered, hope returned. He had survived something unthinkable and seemed ready to find a loving home. His resilience inspired many, and it appeared his story might have a happy ending.
But Taho’s visible wounds were only part of his suffering.
Trauma Too Deep to Heal
Despite receiving expert care and being placed in several foster homes, Taho began exhibiting troubling behavior. He bit multiple caregivers — often without warning — and displayed severe anxiety and aggression. His past abuse, reportedly at the hands of a woman with a history of animal cruelty and drug use, had left deep psychological scars.
Even so, those who loved him refused to give up. Working with Pet Haven, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, and the Humane Society of the United States, Taho entered a behavioral rehabilitation program.
He received dedicated care, time, and patience. But despite all efforts, his condition continued to worsen. Even under strict supervision, with muzzles and crates, he remained fearful and reactive.
An MRI ruled out any neurological issues, confirming that his behavior stemmed from trauma rather than a treatable condition. Taho was no longer able to live safely around people or find peace in his environment.
A Final Act of Mercy
In the end, with heavy hearts, the decision was made to humanely euthanize Taho. It was the only way to ensure his suffering didn’t continue — and to protect those around him.
Though his life was marked by cruelty, it ended surrounded by love and compassion. He finally knew safety, even if only for a short while.
Taho’s story is a painful reminder of the damage that abuse can inflict — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. It also shines a light on the people who fight to give animals like him a second chance.
