Donald Trump Cut Speech Short Amid Medical Emergency

Former President Donald Trump was forced to abruptly end a White House press conference during a swearing-in ceremony after a medical emergency occurred.

The event was held to formally install television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz as the new administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Trump had just begun his remarks when Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt interrupted the proceedings, instructing reporters to leave the room after a young girl fainted, according to the Irish Star.

"Press out," Leavitt was heard saying as the situation unfolded.

President Trump quickly left the podium and expressed concern, saying, "I hope she’s OK," as he moved toward the scene. Dr. Oz also rushed off camera to assist. Footage from the event showed the girl being escorted out of the room by staff.

Later, the White House confirmed that a “minor family member” had fainted but had recovered. “A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing-in ceremony in the Oval Office. We are happy to say she is OK,” the statement read.

Before the interruption, Trump had praised Dr. Oz, calling him “one of the nation’s most talented and beloved medical professionals.” He outlined Oz’s academic credentials, noting that he graduated from Harvard University, earned a medical degree and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and its Wharton School, and built a career as a heart surgeon and professor at Columbia University. He also led the Cardiovascular Institute and the integrative medicine program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Oz gained national fame through The Dr. Oz Show, which aired from 2009 to 2022. The show, while popular, was at times controversial for featuring questionable medical advice. Notably, his endorsement of green coffee extract as a "magic weight loss cure" was criticized by the Federal Trade Commission.

The Senate confirmed Dr. Oz’s appointment to lead CMS earlier this month with a 53-45 vote.
