A tragic end was reached in the search for a missing Florida woman when authorities discovered a body along the Caloosahatchee River on Monday.
The woman, identified as 21-year-old Arielle Valdes from North Fort Myers, had been missing since Wednesday. She disappeared during a jog in her neighborhood, prompting an extensive community-wide search effort. The search involved land, air, and water teams, including marine vessels, aviation units, drones, K9 teams, and the Forensics Division, which used an ANDE rapid DNA device. The Major Crimes Unit also participated in the operation.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that there was no immediate indication of foul play. "Our hearts are with Arielle’s family and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time of grief," the Sheriff's office said. They also confirmed that the Major Crimes Unit would continue working with the District 21 Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation continues.
Valdes' family shared their grief on the Facebook page dedicated to her search, Finding Arielle Valdes. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our dear Arielle, whose bright spirit and gentle nature brought so much joy to those around her," they wrote.

The family also expressed their gratitude to those who assisted in the search efforts. "Whether you searched tirelessly on foot, drove across the county, brought out your boats, flew drones, contacted businesses for footage, or donated to help the family, you have been our strength," they wrote Facebook.
Valdes’ sister, Isabella Hergert, posted a heartfelt tribute, saying her sister was "too good for this world." Her message read, "I love you, and I will see you again in every lifetime. You are a piece of my soul that I will always search for."
According to NBC2, Valdes had been training for a marathon and was known for running long distances, but she had also been struggling with depression.
We extend our deepest condolences to Arielle’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
