Every parent's greatest wish is for their children to be healthy and enjoy a happy childhood.
When Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin welcomed their son Nathaniel into the world, their joy was short-lived. Just 36 hours after his birth, their baby passed away. Nathaniel was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a condition that affects the kidneys by causing cysts to form, often leading to kidney failure. Tragically, this was the fate that befell little Nathaniel.
In 2013, Karen and Paul were blessed with a daughter, Maddy. However, their worst fears were realized when Maddy was diagnosed with the same condition that had claimed her brother's life. The news was devastating for the parents. Maddy's abdomen was so swollen that it resembled that of a woman nine months pregnant.
Despite the grim diagnosis, there was hope. Maddy's father, Paul, became her hero by donating one of his kidneys, giving her a second chance at life.
Before the life-saving surgery, sweet Maddy spent much of her young life in and out of hospitals, often sleeping up to 18 hours a day.
Doctors informed the family that Maddy's chances of living a normal life depended on finding a suitable kidney donor.
In a stroke of luck, her daddy was a perfect match!
Karen, recalling the nerve-wracking experience, said, "With Paul and Maddy, two of my most precious souls, going under the knife, my nerves were a wreck," according to The Mirror.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and both Maddy and Paul recovered fully.
"Paul's kidney saved our little girl," Karen added. "Now, she is full of energy. Her once-swollen tummy is now just slightly rounded, and she is a happy and healthy two-year-old."
Paul, in his humility, believes he simply did what any father would do for their child.
"We've been on a rollercoaster, but any father would have done what I did—donating my kidney to Maddy. It's part of being a parent," he said, according to The Mirror.
"Now we're on a high and can watch Maddy grow up as a happy and healthy little girl."
Though Maddy may need another transplant in about 25 years, she now has many years ahead to enjoy life to the fullest.
We are overjoyed for this wonderful family and wish them a lifetime of happiness. Share this heartwarming story with your loved ones to wish them well-being too.
Love and Peace.
