Rachel, a young mother from Tennessee, welcomed a beautiful baby boy on February 17.
She works as a cashier at the Celina 52 Truck Stop, which took to their Facebook to celebrate the new addition to her family. They posted a picture of the joyful family with the caption, "Congratulations to our cashier Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman on the birth of their baby, Cash Jamal Buckman, born on Saturday at 6:18 pm."
Many were intrigued by the fact that Rachel and Paul are both white, while their baby is black.
Predictably, some people began leaving hurtful comments on the post, accusing Rachel of being unfaithful.
In response, the store posted a clarification.
"Yes, Paul is the father. Rachel has African American DNA which can sometimes lead to a child being born with darker skin due to generational traits," they explained.
They also mentioned the possibility of jaundice and concluded with a plea for kindness: "Please be kind."
Despite this explanation, people continued to make jokes at the couple's expense.
"Congratulations!!! I AM sure he looks just like his dad. Where is he?" one person commented.
"Definitely needs a DNA test; what if they accidentally switched the babies in the nursery?" added another.
"I feel sorry for Paul, being deceived like this is a whole new level of betrayal. Hopefully, he'll wise up," remarked a third.
Fed up with the comments, Rachel decided to share her own ancestry test results in a post. She wrote, "For the haters claiming I don't have black DNA, maybe this will clear it up. Straight from my ancestry DNA results!!! NOW STOP slandering mine and my fiancé Paul Buckman's name. He IS the father of Lil Cash."
