Rowling seems to have voiced displeasure with the two actors. On X (previously known as Twitter), she penned a thread discussing the highly anticipated Cass Review. Dr. Hilary Cass, a pediatrician, reviewed gender identity services for minors in the UK and highlighted a "lack of high-quality research" on puberty blockers' effects on children.
After the review's release, Rowling expressed strong criticism on X, labeling the situation as "severe medical malpractice."
She wrote, "If you can't see the gravity of promoting what now appears to be severe medical malpractice, or can't admit the possibility of your error, where's your self-preservation? The path you've championed is leading to disaster," earlier this week.
Continuing her critique, she added, "My anger is palpable. After reading Cass today, I can't contain it. Irreparable harm has been done to children, and many are complicit— not only medical professionals but also celebrity advocates, uncritical media, and profit-driven corporations."
Although she didn't name anyone directly, her pointed comments towards Emma and Dan followed a tweet suggesting, "Dan and Emma should publicly apologize to you... confident you'll forgive them."
In response, Rowling tweeted, "Forgiveness isn't guaranteed," and further elaborated, "Celebrities who align with movements potentially undermining women's rights and endorse transitioning for minors should direct their apologies to traumatized detransitioners and women needing single-sex spaces."
In 2020, Rowling sparked controversy with her views on transgender issues. Both Radcliffe and Watson publicly addressed the situation. The controversy began when Rowling retweeted an article objecting to the term "people who menstruate" instead of "women."
She tweeted, "'People who menstruate.' Wasn't there a word for those people? Help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"
Her tweet drew significant backlash, with many criticizing her stance. Despite the criticism, Rowling stood firm, tweeting, "If sex isn't real, same-sex attraction is erased. If sex isn't real, women's experiences globally vanish. I cherish and know trans people, but dismissing sex muddles many conversations. Speaking truth isn't hateful."
In response to her remarks, Radcliffe penned an essay for The Trevor Project, expressing support for the transgender community and apologizing for any hurt caused by Rowling's words.
Watson also voiced her support for the transgender community, stating, "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live authentically, without constant doubt or denial."
She continued, "To my trans followers, know that I, along with many others globally, see, value, and love you for who you are."
