This Mum Received a Text Asking if She Knew Her Daughter Was Dating a ‘Black Boy’. Her Response Was Perfect

A mother's reply to an inquiry about her daughter dating a black boy has gone viral, and for all the right reasons.

Heather Boyer took to her Facebook page to address the unidentified inquirer — and any others who might harbor concerns about her white daughter's romantic involvement with a black boy.

It all began when her daughter updated her Facebook profile picture to one featuring herself and her boyfriend, prompting a question about their relationship mere minutes later:

"I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?"

Boyer found herself at a loss for words and spent the entire day pondering her response.

Rather than sending a reply directly to the nosy individual, she opted to upload the photo of her daughter and her boyfriend, accompanied by the following caption:

"Yes, in fact, I did know, but the color of his skin doesn’t define who he is. What defines him is how he treats my daughter.

I see my daughter dating a boy who comes to my house and consistently shows me respect (which is a big deal to me). It's always 'Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am'; we discuss football and baseball; he bids me farewell when he departs and has never exhibited any lack of manners or disrespect.

I see my daughter dating a boy who treats her well. He takes her on dates, to ballgames, out to eat... not to clubs or parties on the weekends.

I see my daughter dating a boy who accompanies her to church every Sunday. He plays in the band, she sits with his family. How many young men these days prioritize attending church? None of the others do.

He doesn’t hit her, curse at her, lie to her, or make her cry. Would I prefer her to date a white boy who did those things, just to avoid her dating someone of another race? Absolutely not."

Mama Boyer concluded her heartfelt post by expressing her joy that her daughter is with someone who "treats her like a queen."

"That’s something I’ve never had in my life, and I’m glad she does."

Facebook user Christopher Johnson remarked:

"It’s sad that people today are so hung up on the color of a person's skin. I’ve got four daughters — one white, one half black, and two that are half Native American. Love knows no color."

Another individual added, "What a great response. I hope it resonates with everyone. They make a beautiful couple."

"AMEN AND GOOD JOB MOMMA!!!!" exclaimed another commenter.
