Trump wins inaugural Peace Prize from FIFA and issues response

Donald Trump has long argued that he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, a claim frequently echoed by many of his supporters. Although he did not receive the Nobel—this year’s honor went to María Corina Machado—Trump has now been recognized with a different accolade: the newly created FIFA Peace Prize.

The award was presented to him during the World Cup Draw ceremony, ahead of the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Attending the event with the First Lady, Trump described the recognition as “one of the great honors of my life.” According to FIFA, the prize is intended to celebrate “individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and, by doing so, have united people across the world.”

The ceremony, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., featured FIFA President Gianni Infantino placing a gold medal around Trump’s neck. Trump immediately donned it as he posed beside his trophy.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that his leadership helped prevent or end multiple global conflicts. In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he once remarked, “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me.”

He renewed that assertion again in August during a summit with Ukrainian and European leaders.
“I’ve done six wars; I’ve ended six wars,” he said.
“If you look at the six deals I settled this year, they were all at war. I didn’t do any ceasefires.”

Most recently, Trump renamed the Institute of Peace to the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace, reinforcing his belief—and public message—that he is, in his own words, the “president of peace.”
